Today I was able to inspect the first Denix M1 carbines at the Wavre militaria show. I just checked the Denix site, and they don’t even list it yet. They are not as pictured before, so not the early type, but the later type with bayonet lug, adjustable rear sight…

Overall impression is OK. On par with the Denix M1 Garand. The price was 195 EUR including a mag pouch on the stock and a sling. Interesting detail is the Quartermaster inspection stamp struck on the wooden stock. Very nice touch. The wood is nice too. The top hand guard has a screw keeping it in place (like the Garand), which is not so nice. The bayonet lug, the rear sight and the rotating safety are cast with the rest, so can only be removed by filing them off altogether! I wasn’t so smitten by them that I had to buy one today. I had hoped they would actually be the early type, which wouldn’t have been as much work to modify with original parts.
